On January 20, 2021, Inauguration Day, rank & file workers from across the public sector in New York City — including nurses, MTA workers, K-12 educators, Adult Education workers, and CUNY professors — will gather in Zuccotti Park at 04:30 p.m. to demand the new Biden administration and New York Democratic politicians cease the harmful and racist austerity regime, and tax the rich as a means of generating revenue for social spending. The city’s public schools, transportation, and hospitals are being eroded and thousands of workers have already been laid-off, with many more preparing for job losses. These policies, magnified by the continued unwillingness of Governor Cuomo and Mayor De Blasio to pour money into the public sector, gravely impact poor, working class, and Black and Brown communities the most.
With the election of Joe Biden, there is an enormous opportunity to push budgetary priorities back toward an investment in public health, infrastructure, and education. You should know that before the end of the year 2020, President Trump has dressed himself like Santa Claus to bring some relief to the American people by increasing funds from $600 to $2,000 for individuals and $4,000 for couples. This will help alleviate the economic struggle caused by CoViD-19.
As you know my dear reader, CoViD-19 has caused the loss of lives, jobs, and separation from love ones, families and friends. This pandemic has caused much pain and devastation. Tragically many have been prohibited from being at the bedside of their loved ones at the time of their departure from this life. Adding salt to their wounds many have been unable to give their loved ones a proper burial.
CoViD-19, or The Chinese Virus, has not only destroyed and impacted countless American lives in the United States, but tragically it has impacted the entire globe, all nations and their peoples.
Here in America President Trump, as promised, through “Operation Warp Speed”, has not only delivered to the world one vaccine, but three to combat CoViD-19. This was made possible by the President’s initiative to eliminate governmental bureaucracy that would have taken years to develop a vaccine. By eliminating the red tape and working with, not only scientific experts but with the private sector, has ensured that these vaccines would meet the President’s goal to have them available for distribution by the end of this year. President Trump accomplished this feat while many critics mocked his deadline and said it would be impossible. But he did it!
You should also know, that to the surprise of Democrats and Republicans alike, President Trump has gone above and beyond the $600 (six-hundred dollars) that Congress had allocated. President Trump has recognized that $600 barely offers any help to suffering Americans. $600 can barely help cover the cost of a family’s utilities and rent. Therefore, the President is asking members of Congress to increase this amount to $2,000 for individuals, and $4,000 for couples. Praise be to God!

In conjunction with the federal holiday that celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is celebrating 10 years of its Small Business Development Program (SBDP), which has provided minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) with mentoring and capacity building opportunities surpassing all other agencies in the transportation industry.
The program has awarded 455 contracts amounting to $480 million and more than 11,520 jobs created or maintained.
The idea to provide both classroom and field training to small contractors in minority and disadvantaged communities was embraced by MTA leadership upon the program’s inception. New York State legislation was secured to provide the approval and funding for the program in 2010 and it was just renewed for another decade. SBDP gives smaller construction firms an opportunity to do work as a prime, giving them the experience, the technical training and the support of larger construction firms. In the years to follow, New York State raised it goals for MWBE state contracting utilization, now at 30 percent, changing the paradigm for small business procurement in minority and disadvantaged communities.
“The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: ‘The time is always right to do what is right’. His words and wisdom remain as relevant and important today as our country continues to reckon with racial injustice and an unprecedented public health crisis,” said MTA Chairman and CEO Patrick J. Foye. “We must all strive to match Dr. King’s commitment to equality and his desire to create a better world for all.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced that the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has constructed a record 28.6 lane miles of new protected bike lanes across all five boroughs in 2020. Combined with another 35.2 miles of conventional bike lanes, 83 miles of car-free Open Streets, more than 10,800 Open Restaurants on city streets and sidewalk, and 16.3 miles of new bus lanes – another one-year record – New York City’s streetscape was transformed more dramatically during 2020 than in any year in modern history.
