Lynija Eason Kumar, 27, Arrested For The Murder Of Jalayah Eason, 6

On Friday, May 26, 2023, at approximately 0357 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an aided, unconscious 6-year-old female child, inside of an apartment, located in a residential building at 730 E. 165 Street (Forest Houses), within the confines of the 42nd Precinct / PSA 7 in the Bronx.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 6-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, with bruising / trauma about the wrists and torso.

EMS responded to the location and transported the aided female to NYC Health & Hospitals / Lincoln, where she was pronounced deceased.

Following proper family notification, the deceased has been identified as indicated.

Pursuant to the ongoing investigation, this incident was deemed a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

The following 27-year-old female individual was arrested and charged on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 1111 hours, within the confines of the 42nd Precinct.

Charges:

  • murder in the 2nd degree;
  • manslaughter recklessly causes death;
  • manslaughter of a person under 11 years.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All charges are merely accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
