Attorney General Letitia James today announced a lawsuit against the Trump Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for continuing to ignore its legal responsibility under the Clean Air Act to control upwind sources of pollution that create unhealthy ground-level ozone (commonly known as smog) in New York.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, follows an October 01, 2019 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in which the Court agreed with New York and other downwind states that EPA erred in issuing a regulation that rejected the need for upwind sources to cut their emissions of smog-forming pollution that blows into New York and other downwind states.

“More than two-thirds of New Yorkers regularly breathe unhealthy air, yet the Trump Administration continues to ignore the smog caused by upwind air pollution,” said Attorney General James. “We will not allow the federal government to trivialize the law, and minimalize the importance of clean air for millions of New Yorkers. My office will use every legal tool available to ensure that EPA follows the law and takes significant measures to reduce pollution.”

Attorney General James’ suit filed today argues that the D.C. Circuit ruling in October means that the Trump EPA is now violating a prior decision by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that imposed a December 06, 2018 deadline for the agency…

You should know that we are coordinating two different humanitarian relief efforts for Puerto Rico.

The first one will be a musical concert this Friday, January 17, 2020 at 07:00 p.m. at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts (250 Bedford Park Boulevard, Bronx, NY 10468) with Eddie Palmieri and several other artists. This concert is being coordinated in conjunction with Freddy Perez Entertainment.

You should also know that this Saturday January 18, 2020 at 12:00 p.m., we will be conducting a Humanitarian Relief Effort on behalf of those affected by the recent earth quakes in Puerto Rico.

This event will be held on Southern Boulevard on the corner of Aldus Street in the Bronx. It is important for you to know that the little island of Puerto Rico has been rocked by a total of 4,587 earthquakes and earth tremors during the past 365 days with an intensity measured between five and six on the Richter Scale.  The most intense earthquake occurred in the town of “Tallaboa Peñuelas” registering 6.4 on the Richter Scale according to news reports.

In just the last 24 hours, the Southern part of Puerto Rico has been rocked by over 39 earthquakes.  This has caused families, and its residents to abandon their homes and take refuge in the street and open spaces fearing their homes and buildings may collapse on them.

The neighbors and fellow citizens in Puerto Rico need not only our prayers, but our help.  Therefore, on Saturday January 18, 2020. The organization I preside over, The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, together with Councilman Rafael Salamanca and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, the 41st Police Precinct, Community Planning Board #2, Radio Vision Cristiana International, Radio Cantico Nuevo, Freddy Perez Entertainment and many other organizations will be collaborating to bring relief to the people of Puerto Rico with this humanitarian effort.

I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to those who have joined me in coordinating this effort. Special thanks to Ms. Joyce Taylor from HR Block, Mr. Fredy Perez, Jr. Entertainment, Mr. Frank Hernandez and…

Few issues have precipitated the anger over deteriorating worker’s rights quite like the anticipated opening of an Amazon distribution center in the Bronx. According to NBC, big companies like Amazon have shown a disregard for health and safety regulation in recent years, with the Staten Island fulfillment center tripling the national average injury rate. As workers’ rights come under fire in the name of the relentless charge towards profit, it is important that Bronx natives know exactly what their rights are, how to exercise them, and how to secure a better deal for the future.

Avenues of redress

While many workers will benefit from union representation, this is not the be all and end all in preserving your rights in the workplace. As the showdown between rail worker union the TWU and rail authority MTA showed, employers are quite willing to place restrictions in contract that have an impediment on your health and safety. It’s absolutely crucial to be aware of how to address workplace negligence. If you are unionized, this is your first port of call, but aside from that it is important to retain the services of a personal injury attorney. Having an expert that can identify shortcomings at the part of the employer and work their way around contract loopholes that might be missed without legal assistance will be crucial to addressing problems as they arise.
