Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. continues his push to #MakeTheBronxCount campaign as the deadline quickly approaches.

Bronx Borough President’s Office is using resources from the Census Outreach Grant; recently awarded by Governor Andrew Cuomo, the Census Agencies, New York State Urban Development Corporation, Empire State Development, the New York Department of State, and the New York Department of Labor; aimed at helping increase the borough’s census count.

The award money ($328,000) was disbursed by the Office of the Bronx Borough President to local non-profits, which conducted targeted “Make The Bronx Count” Census outreach in various communities throughout the Bronx.

The 2020 Census can be filled out at my2020Census.gov.

Local non-profits are using the grant money to conduct strategic Census outreach, such as pop-up enrollment sites, phone/text banking operations and social media campaigns, throughout the Bronx.

Bronx County qualified for the grant, with the money aimed at addressing the low Census response rates in the borough, compared to New York State’s and national Census response averages. Currently, Bronx County has a 59.2% response rate compared to New York State’s 61.4% rate.

“Time is running out and we need to make sure The Bronx gets counted,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. “The 2020 Census is important in having our voices heard and we need to make sure that we stand up and get counted. Filling out the Census is vital in determining funding for our communities and redistricting. Let’s all work together to make sure we protect the federal resources we need to continue our growth for the next decade.”
