In an additional boost to his affordable housing agenda, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced plans this week to convert six vacant city-owned lots into buildings with affordable housing and community services. Together these six sites, which are dispersed through Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan will create 440 new apartments.

The announcement follows on the heels of the news that 2016 saw the largest gains in affordable housing the city has seen in 27 years. This latest announcement by de Blasio is further bolstered by the fact that it will be developed entirely by certified Minority and Women-Owned Businesses.

Each of the six sites will vary in size and offer different community facilities. The properties are as follows:

263-267 West 126th Street
This site will see the creation of 29 apartments along with a restaurant and space for a tech company.

461 Alabama Avenue
This East New York site will be used for supportive housing with the creation of 55 apartments for low-income New Yorkers and the formerly homeless.

1921 Atlantic Avenue
This Bed-Stuy site is the largest of the lot and will see the construction of 183 apartments. They will be used by seniors, and low and middle-income residents. There are also plans for a grocery store at the site.

1510-1524 Broadway
Another Bed-Stuy site, this will be used to build 59 apartments for extremely low-income New Yorkers.

1490 Southern Boulevard
This Crotona Park East development in the Bronx will offer support services for the LGBT community along with a 95-unit residential section for seniors.

359 East 157th Street
The final site is located in Melrose in Bronx and will be an environmentally conscious development with 20 apartments.
