The Bronx Defenders truly regrets having been involved with the “Hands Up” video.

Our organization would never have agreed to be part of the video had we known that it would condone violence against the police.

Unfortunately, we only became aware of the troubling lyrics and images after the video had been Published online. We agreed to be part of a video that we believed would draw attention to the painful experience of police brutality in communities like South Bronx.

Unfortunately, our involvement in the video has distracted attention from the real problem – one that can be heard in the anguished cries of protesters across this country – that the police and the criminal justice system have lost the trust of the people they are supposed to serve.
