A great time to get to know the Harlem River is during the annual Harlem River Festival, this year October 6 through 17.

During the week, children will have the good fortune to explore the river in Wilderness Inquiry canoes. Media and agency types get their turns in canoes on Wednesday, October 8, after a press conference at Roberto Clemente State Park (time TBA).

October 8 is also the date of the “Mini Water Conference” at Roberto Clemente State Park.

The party really gets going on Saturday, October 11, when a celebratory parade of vessels fill the river, including fireboats, canoes and kayaks, and Row NY and Harlem River Community Rowing crew shells. October 11 festivities will also include free canoe rides, entertainment, and information booths.
