After it was reported last week that Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin has been targeted by the Jets once or if he hits free agency, Maclin spoke with me as well as another reporter on his contract situation at the Philadelphia Soul tryouts on Saturday.
I asked Jeremy Maclin what were his thoughts on the rumors of the Jets expressing interest in him, he said that as of right now he just wants to play football.
“I’m not really focused on that stuff.” Maclin said.”This is where I want to play football (Philadelphia) and I hope to play here for the rest of my career.”
There may be a very small chance that the Jets get a chance to acquire Jeremy Maclin when free agency starts, even though he is currently under contract. Eagles GM Howie Roseman said last month that he would like to sign him and Eagles WR Riley Cooper who stepped up as Maclin’s replacement when he was out the entire season with an ACL tear back in training camp.
“The door is open for both (Cooper).” Howie Roseman told reporters after the season.
Not only is Howie keeping the likelihood of the Jets acquiring Maclin in March, but Maclin himself who was optimistic about not participating in training camp and OTAs.
