Tucson’s Reid Park Zoo is set to introduce a new resident. A Malayan tiger named “Sita” will make her debut next Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the zoo’s tiger habitat.
The tiger comes to the Tucson zoo from the Bronx Zoo in New York. The 10-year-old is on loan indefinitely as part of the Tiger Species Survival Plan.
Zoo officials say Reid Park Zoo works closely with other zoological facilities to make careful decisions regarding placement of animals, potential breeding matches, and animal welfare.
The hope is that Sita and the zoo’s male, Baheem, will be able to produce offsprings.
