There was a partial collapse of the roof of a CVS in the Williamsbridge section of Bronx Wednesday, and the building has been demolished.
Officials say the collapse was a result of snow accumulating on top of the Burke Avenue store.
One of the exteriors walls of the building was also cracked and bulging out, which contributed to the decision to raze the entire structure.
There were sounds of cracking and popping, sending customers and employees scrambling to safety. The CVS was evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
“At this time, we can tell you that all employees and customers were able to safely exit the store before the roof collapsed around 2 p.m.m so there were no injuries,” a CVS spokesperson said in a statement. “We are transferring pharmacy operations to our nearby store at 732 Allerton Avenue to ensure that our customers will continue to have access to their prescriptions.”
The pharmacy has yet to be demolished, because there are still medications that need to be moved.
