On Sunday May 2, 2010 the 38th Annual Long Island Marathon was held.
A 27 year old attorney from Lynbrook, Daniel McGrath, won with an unofficial time of 2:29:44 and a 28 year old Bronx woman running the race for the first time, Lilia Britez, won with an unofficial time of 3:20:22. McGrath had won the marathon two years.
Although the temperature at the start of the race was a friendly 68 degrees, there was a high level of humidity with an expectation of rain. At about the time that McGrath was crossing the finish cheap ativan canada line, runners who were just reaching the 10-mile mark were being diverted from the planned race course because of concerns that they would be unable to finish within the six hour time limit.
Despite the weather, over 8,000 runners participated in the two day Festival of Races, which included a 1 Mile, 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon over the weekend. This was a significant increase over last year and is the highest level of participation in the last 13 years of this event.
