At leave five people were hospitalized after a three-alarm fire sent suffocating smoke billowing through a high-rise apartment tower in Bronx.
The fire was reported at around 7:40 a.m. Saturday on the fifth floor of a 25-story building near Yankee Stadium.
The Fire Department says a child and four adults were being treated for smoke inhalation in hyperbaric chambers at Jacobi Medical Center.
Some people who fled the building emerged with their faces and clothes blackened with ash.
Several firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, and nearly a dozen other residents were treated for minor injuries.
