Cathy Garcia, 69, Killed In A Hit-And-Run Accident

On Thursday, August 25, 2022, at approximately 0516 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of E. 161st Street and River Avenue, within the confines of the 44th Precinct in the Bronx.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander, traveling southbound on River Avenue, was struck in the intersection of River Avenue by a 2022 BMW X6, which was traveling westbound on E. 161st Street.

The 69-year-old female operator of the Mitsubishi Outlander was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals / Lincoln, where she was pronounced deceased.

The unknown male operator of the BMW X6, along with two unknown male occupants, abandoned the vehicle and all fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The three male then turned themselves in, later in the day, at the 44th Precinct.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.

Following proper family notification, the deceased has been identified as indicated.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following three (3) male individuals, the vehicle operator, aged 24; the front seat vehicle passenger, aged 29; and the rear seat vehicle passenger, aged 28 respectively, have been arrested and charged on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 0120 hours, within the confines of the 44th Precinct.
