Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, New York City Council Member Shirley Aldebol, NYC Department of Design and Construction Commissioner Ochoa, and New York Public Library COO Iris Weinshall today joined members of the City Island community for a check presentation celebrating $600,000 in capital funding for City Island Library.

The funding will be added to $5.1 million in capital funds previously committed by the City Council and the Mayor and represents the final amount needed to advance planned upgrades to the library’s roof and HVAC system, helping move these infrastructure improvements closer to completion. The DDC-managed project will enhance the overall library experience, increase building efficiency, and help foster a comfortable, welcoming environment.

The City Island Library serves as an important neighborhood resource for residents of all ages, providing access to books, technology, educational programming, community space, and other essential services. Investments in the branch’s physical infrastructure will help ensure that the library remains a safe, comfortable, and reliable space for the community for years to come.

Libraries across New York City serve as a vital place for learning, connection, and access to public resources, often serving…

A year and a half into Trump’s second term, crypto has gone from outsider asset to a real White House priority. The president’s finances are tied up in the boom, too, as the average American can feel the movements as well.

Ever since Donald Trump stepped back into the White House, Bitcoin’s rollercoaster has mostly come down to policy, not just hype. We’re talking about everything from a brand-new strategic reserve to fresh legislation. Over the last year and a half, the federal government shifted gears, treating digital assets as something you can build around, not just a fringe experiment.

You see that shift reflected in crypto prices. Binance, the world’s leading blockchain ecosystem, reports Bitcoin hit $83,376.06 on September 25, 2026, way up from the start of the year. Anyone who’s glued to the market knows you can watch cryptocurrency prices move by the second over on Binance’s live page, where it becomes obvious how the price and the policies at the White House are interlinked.

What exactly has Trump done to make things more crypto-friendly?

Back in March 2025, Trump signed an executive order to create the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. It’s funded with Bitcoin the Treasury already seized, along with a separate Digital Asset Stockpile for other coins, according to a public released statement from the White House. Just a few months later, in July 2025, came the GENIUS Act, which let banks, credit unions and nonbank firms issue stablecoins under federal rules.

The big moment came on August 20, 2026, when Trump pulled industry heavyweights, including Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, the Winklevoss twins and more, into the White House to push Congress…

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected from the Indiana Fever’s victory over the Chicago Sky after a courtside confrontation. Freedom was wearing a shirt that read “WOMAN noun. adult human female.” Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud approached him during a timeout, yelling and pointing. Freedom stood with his arms outstretched before security and officials removed him from the arena.

Freedom later stated that he was kicked out for supporting women and protecting women’s sports. He has already declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft specifically to highlight that the league’s rules do not clearly define the word “woman.” The incident captures the central contradiction now running through women’s athletics: stating a basic biological fact is treated as a provocation, while the erasure of sex-based categories is treated as progress.

The Shirt & The Reaction

The message on Freedom’s shirt is a dictionary definition. It is not a slur. It is not a call for violence. It is the ordinary meaning of the word that has existed for centuries. Yet in the current climate of professional women’s basketball, that definition is radioactive. Natasha Cloud’s decision to confront Freedom courtside turned a silent statement into a public spectacle. Security then removed the man wearing the shirt rather than the player who initiated the confrontation.

Freedom’s response was consistent with his record. He has spoken repeatedly about the importance of protecting female athletes from the physical advantages that male…
