6th Annual Shadow League Awards Show

On October 10, 2019, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. spoke at the 6th Annual Shadow League Awards, held at the at The Edison Ballroom, to tout the sports website’s involvement in the Bronx community as well as their support of the borough president’s “#Not62” health initiative.

Borough President Diaz, Jr. joined Shadow League Awards honorees ESPN analyst and new “NBA Countdown” host Maria Taylor; NCAA champion, Olympic gold medalist and WNBA star Tina Charles; and Pepsi Head of Basketball Marketing, Charece Williams-Gee; to thank The Shadow League for all of their support, over the years, particularly their involvement in the “#Not62” initiative.

#Not62” aims to improve the health of the borough, by partnering up with the business community, healthcare providers and community-based/faith based organizations to help guide key decision makers to find ways to integrate a public health framework that will help Bronx improve the overall health of the community.

“I want to thank The Shadow League, not just for the invite to their 6th Annual Award show, but more importantly for their partnership in helping us, as a borough, with our ‘#Not62’ initiative,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. “Whether it is sponsoring our annual Family Olympiad or hosting movie screenings such as “Brian Banks,” collaboration with entities such as The Shadow League are key, working together as a community to help improve the health and lives of our Bronx residents. I want to thank Yussuf Khan, GM and SVP of The Shadow League, a Bronxite who has done well and who does not forget his roots, working hard alongside us to improve the lives of residents through sports, physical activity, and most importantly, participation and engagement in the community.”
