The Bronx Community Pride Center, Inc (BCPC) officially announces the 4th Annual Bronx LGBT Pride Festival, which will take place on Saturday, June 20 2009 from 12pm-7pm, at Barretto Point Park in the Bronx at Hunts Point. The theme for this year’s event is “We Matter”.

This years  festivities include the attendance of several elected officials along with a special performance by award winning Dance Singer “CRYSTAL WATERS” singing her No# 1 chart topping hit: “Gypsy Woman – She’s Homeless”, and many more! Opening for Ms. Waters will be R&B/ Neo-Soul singing sensation “Nhojj”. There will also be an array of vendors and service organizations that will provide information, products, and services committed to strengthening the unity and support of the Bronx LGBTQ community.

Last years Bronx Pride, which was also held at Barretto Point Park, attracted over 3,000 community supporters. This year’s event plans to be even bigger. “The Bronx LGBT community has found its voice and because of this, New York City is taking notice”, says Lisa Winters, Executive Director of the Bronx Community Pride Center, Inc.

BCPC – The Bronx Community Pride Center is the only Gay organization in the entire borough of the Bronx that provides out-reach, health-care services, comprehensive programs, and a “Safe Space” for over 10,000 LGBT youth, seniors, and people-in-between in our community.

The Rainbow flag or Pride flag of the LGBT community (also known as the gay pride flag) is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) pride and LGBT social movements in use since the 1970s. The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride in LGBT rights marches. It originated in the United States, but is now used worldwide. Designed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978, the design has undergone several revisions to first remove then re-add colors due to widely available fabrics. As of 2008, the most common variant consists of six stripes, with the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. The flag is commonly flown horizontally, with the red stripe on top, as the colors would appear in a natural rainbow.
