On Sunday, August 11, 2019, at approximately 2121 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Jerome Avenue and Bainbridge Avenue, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx.
Upon arrival, responding officers encountered an unconscious 33-year-old female pedestrian with trauma to the body, and a conscious 49-year-old male pedestrian with trauma to the body.
EMS responded to the location and transported both pedestrians to St. Barnabas Hospital, where the male is listed in stable condition and the female succumbed to her injuries on Monday, August 12, 2019.
The preliminary investigation conducted by NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 29-year-old male operator of a Nissan minivan was traveling southbound on Jerome Avenue, when he swerved in traffic and mounted the sidewalk at the corner of Bainbridge Avenue, striking both pedestrians, who were waiting at the bus stop.
Following proper family notification, the deceased has been identified as indicated.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual 29-year-old male has been arrested and charged.

- assault;
- reckless driving;
- vehicular assault;
- reckless endangerment;
- driving while intoxicated;
- refusal to take breath test;
- failure to obey traffic device;
- driving while ability impaired.
The investigation remains ongoing.
