Today, join Co-Chair of the Black, Latino and Asian, Caucus, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Chair of the Immigration Committee, Carlos Menchaca, The Progressive Caucus, The Jewish Caucus, The New Sanctuary Coalition, The New York Immigration Coalition, and other advocates, as they call to escalate the fight to protect the rights and resources of immigrant communities. The Trump Administration will be releasing the rule officially on Wednesday, August 13th, to go into effect 60 days later on October 15th.
The Public Charge Rule has become the administration’s new way to prevent documented and undocumented immigrants from entering the U.S. or adjusting their immigration status. The recent news has caused many immigrants to leave many social programs out of fear of repercussions. This coalition of advocates and electeds will be giving New Yorkers valuable information and resources to help them make informed decisions about accessing or retaining indispensable medical, food and housing assistance.
The event will take place on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019; 12:00 p.m. on the City Hall Steps.
