On Wednesday, August 03, 2022, New York Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado along with his wife, Lacey, and twin 8-year old sons, visited Rising Ground’s Family Resource Center in the Soundview section of the Bronx, to take part in an art therapy class for children aged 3-6.
The program, administered by Rising Ground’s ParentChild+ program, helps empowers parents of kids ages 18 months to 4 years to be their children’s first and most important teacher by delivering resources like books and educational toys to the homes of low-income parents. ParentChild+ helps make play a learning experience to close the achievement gap.
Graduates of the program enter kindergarten with skills an average of 10 months above their age, are 50% better prepared for elementary school than low-income children who do not attend the program, are less likely to need special education or remedial services, less likely to repeat a grade, more likely to graduate from high school, and have a higher lifelong income of $600,000 to $1 million more than their peers who did not participate in the program.
