Police said they chased, tackled and arrested a 21-year-old man after he tried to cash a fraudulent check at the Rose Hill Shopping Center on Wednesday.

Dembo Drameh of Bronx walked into the Chase bank around 1:10 p.m. and tried to cash a $2,427 check from a Levittown, Long Island, business, Police Chief Brian Fanelli said. The teller was suspicious of the check, and bank officials notified the police.

When Detective Matthew Brown walked into the bank, Drameh bolted. Brown chased him through the shopping center and tackled him, police said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a forged check and identity theft, felonies.

Drameh has multiple misdemeanor convictions, police said, and was being held on $30,000 bail at the Westchester County jail.
