Dr. Stanley Melvin Barkin, 87, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at his residence.
Dr. Barkin was born in Bronx, NY on July 18, 1926, son of the late Morris and Sophie (Kendzur) Barkin, Russian Jewish immigrants.
He earned a B.S. from Brooklyn College and a Ph.D. from Brooklyn Polytechnic University. He was a retired Associate Director of the National Academy of Sciences Materials Advisory Board in Washington, DC, and a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran of World War II. He worked as an adjunct math professor at Wheeling Jesuit University, was a member of the American Chemical Society and Unitarian Church of Bellaire, OH.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Barkin, and sister, Thelma Weinstock.
Dr. Barkin is survived by two daughters, Diane R. Barkin of Houston, TX. and Nina B. (John) Kickler of Valencia, PA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Duff D. Harris of New York, NY, Janine D. Kickler and John E. Kickler both of Valencia, PA. and his longtime companion Drusilla Ice of Bellaire, OH.
Friends are invited to a memorial service on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ohio Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 66166 Kirkwood Heights, Bellaire, OH.
