Cultural Renaissance for Economic Revitalization, CRER a grassroots not-for-profit organization located at 522 Morris Park Ave, Bronx, Ny 10460. CRER is an all-volunteer community organization dedicated to empowering those who are less fortunate.
The population served by CRER includes those at risk of becoming homeless, the re-entry population and at-risk youth. CRER has partnered with the Bronx Guild H.S. to develop the Y.E.S. Project, (Youth Engaged in Success) The Y.E.S. Project teaches youth about the importance of youth led cooperatives. They meet twice a week with Project Director: Awilda Velez along with guest speakers, instructors and volunteers for a full day of course activities that include: Financial Literacy, Business Plan Development, Creative Art & Writing, Video Production and Editing and Remedial Math & Reading.
Project Y.E.S. was made possible by a grant from Citgo/NorthStar and Petro Bronx.
The students from the Y.E.S Project will celebrate the completion of their project in March, 2010. A luncheon ceremony for them is in the works and full details will be announced. Vendors are needed to host this event. The students will share their experience and a video presentation is expected. City officials, community leaders and parents and teachers are expected to attend. The students who graduate will be the lead facilitators for the next group of children to enroll in the Y.E.S. Project. The model is “Each One, Teach One.”
Cultural Renaissance for Economic Revitalization is proud to be involved in a movement that puts youth first. We know first hand the amount of intelligence, pride and creativity that youth possess and Project Y.E.S gives youth at risk an opportunity to shine and to be heard. It allows the youth to reconsider their choices that affect them in profound ways.
