Next Friday, April 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., some of Bronx’s best emerging talent will compete in the Bronx round of WNYC’s Battle of the Boroughs. Here is a sample of the diverse contenders taking part:
Bethany Davis – pop, R&B
Originally from CA, this Haitian/Cherokee singer has been named “Who’s Next” by VH1 and has opened for Trey Songz. Her single, “You can Make It” was the most requested single on 106.3 last summer.
The KI KI Experience – alternative, rock, funk and soul
This group recently sold out their performance at the Apollo Theater’s Music Café, with the series’ highest turnout to date.
These musicians will compete with other borough artists in hopes of securing a spot in the Ultimate Battle, where the Grand Prize is a featured concert in The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, WNYC’s downtown, street-level broadcast and performance studio, and an opening act slot at this year’s SummerStage festival.
Tickets are available for purchase at www.wnyc.org/thegreenespace. The site also features a live video webcast for those outside NYC.
Each in-studio audience member will vote for their favorite artist, and online voting will be open for one week following the event. The Bronx finalist will be announced after votes have been tabulated from the in-studio and online audiences.
