Bronx, NY Defeats Castroville, TX 13-11 In The Mustang World Series

In game ten of the 2019 Mustang World Series, Bronx, NY defeated Castroville, TX 13-11. Noe Mercedes and Angel Poche each collected two RBI’s to help power Bronx’s explosive offense.

Castroville’s offense exploded for six runs in the top of the first. A fielding error with the bases loaded let Easton Lange and Jerimiah Jacobs Jr. score to give the Texans a 2-0 lead. Castroville’s third run came on a passed ball that scored Hunter Hurtado. A wild pitch then plated Wyatt Ducs. A passed ball scored Brady Fillinger for the fifth run, followed by Christopher Rash’s single that scored Lawson Schuchart for the final run of the inning.

Bronx rallied back quickly, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game. With two outs, Mercedes doubled to score Alex Rodriguez for Bronx’s first run of the game. Poche then singled to score Mercedes and Flenix Ramirez, cutting Bronx’s deficit to only three runs. A walk with the bases loaded scored Poche for Bronx’s fourth run. A fielding error then allowed Luis Garcia and Jackmichael Munoz to score, tying the game at six.

Bronx added two more runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. The first run of the inning came from Garcia’s RBI single that scored Ramirez. A defensive error allowed Poche to score the second run of the inning.

Castroville scored one run in the top of the third to cut Bronx’s lead in half. After Fillinger singled and advanced to second and third on consecutive fielding errors, another fielding error on Joseph Alvarado’s ground ball allowed him to score.

Bronx scored three runs in the bottom of the third to add a cushion to its lead. Kendry Pegeuro hit an RBI single that scored Luis Nunez. Mercedes then singled to right field, scoring Pegeuro. Branden Rosario scored the Bronx’s final run of the inning on a successful steal of home.

Castroville scored two runs in the top of the fourth to answer. A fielding error allowed Hurtado to score Castroville’s first run of the inning. Another fielding error let Ducs score, cutting Castroville’s deficit to only two runs.

Bronx added another run in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the bottom of the fifth. In the fourth inning, after Pegeuro walked and stole second and third, a passed ball allowed him to score to give the Bronx a three-run lead. In the fifth, Mercedes singled, stole second, and scored because of Ramirez’s double.

Bronx will advance and play Mexicali, Mexico at 06:00 p.m. CT/US on Sunday, August 04, 2019 at the Youngsville Sports Complex. Castroville is eliminated from the tournament after compiling a 1-2 record.
