In game six of the 2019 Mustang World Series, Bronx, NY defeated Youngsville, LA 14-1. Bronx’s pitchers stifled Youngsville, allowing zero earned runs and striking out six over four innings.
Bronx scored five runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to an early lead. Alex Rodriguez started the scoring with an RBI single that scored Kendry Pegeuro. Rodriguez stole second and third before Branden Rosario hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed him to score. After Noe Mercedes singled and stole second and third, a passed ball let him score Bronx’s third run of the game. Flenix Ramirez walked before stealing second and third and scoring on a passed ball. The fifth and final run of the inning came on another passed ball that scored Luis Garcia.
Youngsville scored its only run in the top of the second inning. After Brendan Shullaw reached on an error and stole second and third, a passed ball allowed him to score.
Bronx’s offense continued to produce, scoring five more runs in the bottom of the second. Mercedes opened the inning’s scoring with a triple that brought in Pegeuro. A single by Ramirez then scored Mercedes, making the score 7-1 in favor of Bronx. After Ramirez stole second, consecutive passed balls allowed him to move to third and score. Another passed ball scored Garcia for the fourth run of the inning. The fifth and final run of the inning came from a defensive error that allowed Jose Vargas to score.
Bronx added four more runs in the bottom of the third to expand its lead. After Angel Poche opened the inning with a single, Luis Nunez’s double scored Poche for the first run of the inning. After Mercedes was hit by a pitch, a fielder’s choice moved Nunez to third and Mercedes to second. Garcia then hit an infield single that scored Nunez and moved Mercedes to third. A fielder’s choice let Mercedes score and moved Garcia to third. The final run of the inning and game came from a passed ball that scored Garcia.
Bronx avoids elimination and will play Castroville, Texas in another elimination game at 10:00 a.m. CT/US at the Youngsville Sports Complex. Youngsville is eliminated from the tournament but will play Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in a consolation game at 12:00 p.m. CT/US at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
