Bronx Man Struck, Killed By Mercedes In Inwood

An elderly Bronx man was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street in Inwood last week, police said.

Jose Melogarib, 68, was crossing Sherman Avenue mid-block on Monday, January 23, 2017 around 5:45 p.m. when a white Mercedes Benz struck him, police said. The collision occurred in the vicinity of Sherman Avenue and Academy Street, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene they discovered Melogarib suffering from trauma to his nose and body, police said. Melogarib was transported to Harlem Hospital, where he died from his injuries three days later, police said.
