The stands of the Rose Hill Gym were full of students on Friday night, October 18, 2013, as the Fordham University men’s and women’s basketball teams officially kicked off the 2013-2014 season with the fourth annual Ram Town, a night of fun, games and food.
Students started lining up well before doors opened at 8:50 p.m. with the line stretching out the McGinley Center. But it was worth the wait as once the students arrived in the Rose Hill Gym they were presented with free Ram Town t-shirts and treated to all sorts of delectables from Arthur Avenue eateries, including Michelangelo’s, John’s Pizza and Palumbo Bakery. Sodexo and Coca-Cola also served food items to the hungry crowd.
Lucky fans who won contests walked away with great prizes, including New York Knicks tickets, books for a semester, iPads, Beats by Dre, flat screen televisions and the grand prize, an all-expense paid trip to Cancun, which was won by Elle Crane for hitting a free throw to cap the Ram Town festivities.
The crowd saw the Fordham women’s and men’s teams in action, with both teams taking the court right after a special Ram Town video was played on the new video scoreboards. Each team ran basketball-specific drills before the two squared off in a dance-off and three-point shooting contest.
Women’s head coach Stephanie Gaitley and men’s head coach Tom Pecora addressed the crowd and urged those in attendance to support the Rams during the 2013-2014 season.
