Today The Gathering for Justice launched a dollar-for-dollar matching gift campaign called “Double The Good Trouble” which will support and amplify The Gathering’s work and fuel the enduring legacy of its extraordinary late founder, Harry Belafonte. Thanks to an anonymous donor every dollar the organization receives will be matched up to an incredible $100,000. Donors can support the campaign by making a donation here.

“We are at a transformative stage in our growth, and to receive such a generous gift is not only vital to our continued work, but by engaging our community to give, knowing that every dollar they donate with be doubled, is a true testament in the work we do and the legacy we must continue,” said President and CEO, Carmen Perez-Jordan. “As an organization that is grounded in movement-building and racial and social justice, we have witnessed the incredible power of community organizing, power building, narrative shifting, advocacy, and empowerment in the communities we serve. We are extremely grateful for our anonymous donor to invest in our work in a way that inspires others to expand their support as well.”

This is a unique opportunity for organizations, the community, and individual donors to help drive The Gathering’s commitment to Kingian nonviolence, as well as the opportunity to share its values on racial justice. Donations to the organization will help develop leaders, employ cultural organizing, and convene communities across generations to fortify the movement for racial justice and help realize Dr. King’s dream of a beloved community.

“In my early days at The Gathering for Justice, I was blown away by stories of the late and beloved Mr. B boarding planes with suitcases full of money for organizers who needed it to continue their work. He consistently put his resources and time where his mouth was and we are all better for it,” said Brea Baker, writer, activist, and board member at The Gathering for Justice. “Now, as we shore up the long-term sustainability of the organization he founded, we call on funders, celebrities, and community members to pick up where Mr. B left off. Let’s make Good Trouble together for decades to come!”
