Purchase Repertory Theatre will perform “Bronx Kiss,” in a special engagement at the Emelin Theatre February 4-7.
This series of romantic, haunting and funny short plays and scenes celebrate John Patrick Shanley, the Pulitzer-prize winning author of “Doubt” and the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Moonstruck.”
Like Shanley’s characters, the plays are romantic, full of longing, brutal, haunted by demons, all at the same time.
This is the second year actors from the renowned Purchase College Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film are performing at the Emelin Theatre, in Westchester’s oldest continually operating performing arts center, through a special collaboration.
The director is Benard Cummings, who is also a distinguished actor and playwright. His directing credits include the Stella Adler Studio in New York City, Alchemy Theatre, and Purchase College. As an actor he recently appeared Off-Broadway in “The Eye of God” for Theatre East and has performed at Arena Stage, Goodman Theater, Yale Rep and the Shakespeare Theatre of DC, to name a few. As a playwright, Cummings’ work has been produced in Chicago, Los Angeles, Ft. Worth Texas, St. Louis, New York City and London.
Mr. Cummings also serves on the Artistic Advisory Board for Theatre East and on the faculty of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. He is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Southern Methodist University and Tyler Junior College.
The Purchase Repertory theatre presents bold interpretations of classic and contemporary plays while bringing the next generation of actors, designers and technicians to the stage for the first time.
