The following are remarks as prepared for Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen:

“Good morning, I am Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen, Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Bronx.

The information that I am about to provide you is preliminary and subject to change.

Shortly after midnight this morning, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert followed by a 911 call for a male firing shots here at the 225 Street train station. Several plain clothed and uniformed officers from the 47th Precinct responded to the scene and were directed to the south bound platform, where they engaged a male in possession of a firearm. Two of the officers then fired several rounds at the suspect striking him one time the left shoulder.

EMS transported the suspect to Jacobi Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The officers were removed to North Central Hospital for evaluation.

A .380 caliber semi-automatic firearm was recovered at the scene next to the suspect as he was taken into custody at the platform.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All charges are merely accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
