The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced today it will continue its weekend maintenance work order blitz initiative, with maintenance and property management staff available at seven developments across the City to assist public housing residents.
While NYCHA developments have limited staffing during weekends, staff will assist residents and address the maintenance work order backlog at:
“Every completed maintenance repair is a step toward improving living conditions for the over 380,000 people that call NYCHA home,” said NYCHA Interim Chair and CEO Kathryn Garcia. “The Authority will continue to provide repairs and help our residents through innovative solutions like the Saturday blitz initiative. We remain focused on preserving affordable housing for all NYCHA families.”
“Our hardworking staff will be out in full force today to fulfill hundreds of maintenance repairs and address annual income recertifications for our residents across the City,” said NYCHA General Manager Vito Mustaciuolo. “The success of our weekend maintenance work order blitzes serves as a motivating factor as we work to bring change to our residents’ homes and be a better landlord.”
Regular and extra staff will be on-site from 08:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. Also, Housing Assistants are available at the respective management offices to help residents with their annual income recertifications.
Since the initiative started last December, staff have closed over 9,700 maintenance work orders and completed more than 2,000 annual income recertifications at nearly 65 developments citywide during the Authority’s prior Saturday blitzes.
Efforts like the Saturday blitz initiative and the expansion of NYCHA Cares – a $20 million initiative funded by the de Blasio administration to tackle more complex repair backlogs – make up major components of NYCHA 2.0, a plan to ensure quality affordable housing for all NYCHA residents.
NYCHA will continue to hold its Saturday blitz effort twice a month to address residents’ repair work order backlogs at developments citywide.
These work orders do not include emergency health and safety repairs, which are addressed immediately by the Authority.
