On Tuesday, September 10, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. joined The New York Nail Salon Workers Association and Workers United to support their “Campaign for Health, Dignity and Justice” initiative, which addresses the abuses in the nail salon workplace, calling for industry-wide reforms.
Nail salon workers discussed the industry-wide issues plaguing the employees, wage theft, health and safety violations, and grueling working conditions.
“I am proud to stand with nail salon workers as they bravely speak out about against exploitation in the industry and launch the ‘Campaign for Health, Dignity and Justice,’” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “Many of these women feel that they have no voice, that they have nowhere to turn to help with their labor rights, but we are here, with them, in solidarity, trying to help them improve what have been industry-wide issues plaguing salons across the city. We hear you and we will help you.”
