On Tuesday September 10, 2019, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. held his annual Grandparents Appreciation Luncheon, at Applebee’s in the Hutchinson Metro Center.
The event formally recognized grandparents who have dedicated their time to their family and community over the years.
“These are grandparents solely raising their grandchildren, grandparents who have sole custody of their grandchildren sometimes due to circumstances out of their control,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. “In most cases, these children have often lost their parents to illness, drug addiction, mental health issues, or even incarceration. The process of gaining custody can be a long and trying process for people at this stage of their life. That’s why I am proud to host events such as our annual Grandparents Luncheon. For grandparents, raising children again can be as traumatic for them as it is for the children to be without their parents, which is why I am committed to helping our Bronx seniors in any way possible.”
