A man on a motorcycle who police were chasing was killed in Bronx earlier today, when an NYPD squad car crashed into him, police said.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m in Hunts Point. Police said they approached a man who they had spotted earlier riding a dirt bike without a license plate or helmet. The man fled on foot, police said, and then jumped onto the back of a friend’s, also unregistered, dirt bike.

As the two men on the bike began to drive away, a police squad car struck them from the back, throwing the two men off the bike, police said.

Emergency workers responded to the scene and transported the 28-year-old driver of the bike to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released, pending family notification.

The other man on the bike, who police have identified as 26-year-old Bronx resident Adalberto Gonzalez, suffered minor scapes, police said. He was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental administration, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest.

An investigation is ongoing.
