The win streak is now five straight for the Lehman College volleyball team, after the Lightning won at SUNY Old Westbury on Tuesday, 3-1, in a non-conference match.
Set scores were 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. Lehman is now 8-5 overall, having won six of its last seven matches. Old Westbury drops to 7-14.
All four sets were very close and highly competitive. Old Westbury won the first, 25-22, before Lehman won three consecutive sets.
On the evening, Sophomore Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) hit an amazing .619 on 13 kills, while adding two solo blocks. Classmate Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) led the attack with a game-high 17 kills, hitting .480. She also contributed three service aces. As a team, Lehman hit .297.
Sophomore Julia Mercado (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) played spectacularly on defense, recording 15 digs. Freshman setter Imani Dubois (Bronx, N.Y./JP Taravella) had 19 set assists.
Lehman is in the midst of a 13-match road swing, and will head to Schenectady, NY, this coming weekend, for the Union College Interleague Tournament.
