The Lehman College women’s volleyball team ran its win streak to three straight by coming from behind in dramatic fashion to defeat Sarah Lawrence College 3-2. Set scores were 27-29, 25-17, 12-25, 25-18, 15-10.
Leading the Lightning was senior Vanessa Brown (Bronx, NY/Lehman HS), who recorded a double-double with eleven kills and ten digs. Freshman Imani Dubois (Bronx, NY/JP Taravella) also had a double-double, with 25 set assists and a team-high 19 digs, as the Lightning (6-5, 2-1 CUNYAC) now have won four of its last five matches.
With the match on the line in the fifth set, Lehman head coach Wolfgang Lucena called a timeout leading 11-9. Lehman went on to score three of the final four points to seal the win. Sophomores Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Cari English (Yonkers, NY/Cardinal Spellman) each had a kill in that stretch.
The Lightning are two matched into a 13-match road swing, and will head to Brooklyn College on Thursday, September 27, 2012.
