On Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at approximately 1556 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a child struck at E. 215 Street near White Plains Road, within the confines of the 47 Precinct in Bronx.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 1-year-old female was struck by a 2002 BMW SUV, which remained at the scene. The child was transported by private means to Montefiore Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the vehicle was traveling north bound on White Plains Road at E. 215 Street, and as the 22-year-old male operator attempted to make a right turn onto east bound 215 Street, the operator failed to maintain control of the vehicle, and struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle along the south curb line. The vehicle then mounted the sidewalk and struck the child, who was seated in a stroller, subsequently pinning the child and stroller against a wall.
The operator of the vehicle was taken into custody at the scene.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual has been arrested and charged on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 1636 hours:
45 York Avenue
Staten Island, NY 10301
- reckless driving
- motor vehicle failed to yield to pedestrian causing injury
- operate motor vehicle without insurance
- motor vehicle license violation: no license
The investigation remains ongoing.
All charges are merely accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
