Jerome Thomas, 19, Arrested For The Murder Of Imani Mitchell

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at approximately 2133 hours, New York City Police Department (NYPD) police officers responded to a 911 call of an aided infant inside of a residential building on Union Avenue, within the confines of the 40th Precinct in the Bronx.

Upon arrival officers observed a 1-year-old female semi-conscious.

EMS responded and transported the child to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.

On Friday, September 5, 2025, the aided succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

This incident has been deemed a homicide.

Following proper family notification, the deceased has been identified as indicated.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following 19-year-old male individual was arrested and charged on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 1645 hours, within the confines of the 40th Precinct.

Charges:

  • assault, 2 counts;
  • endangering the welfare of a child;
  • additional charges might be pending.

The investigation remains ongoing.
