The deadline for completing the 2020 census has been moved up to September 30, 2020. Do not miss your chance to be counted. Respond today.

Why is it important?

The census determines the state’s representation in Congress and influences federal funding for essential programs in education, public transit systems, highway planning, community development and other areas.

New York pays more in taxes to the federal government than 47 other states, but receives only 90 cents for every tax dollar paid — well below the national average of $1.21. This is another reminder why we need to make sure every New Yorker completes the 2020 census.

New York is in danger of being undercounted. This would leave certain communities without the services they need.

The Census Bureau finds populations that include people of color, immigrants, those living in poverty or in nontraditional housing, and households with young children or limited English proficiency are most at risk of not being represented.

Participating in the census is confidential and easy. Tell your friends, family and neighbors how important it is using our report “Census 2020: Your Participation Matters,” available in multiple languages.

If you have not responded to the census, learn why the time to act is NOW!
