On Friday, June 18, 2021, at approximately 2322 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision, involving a bicyclist, struck in the vicinity of the Bronx River Parkway underpass and Southern Boulevard, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx.

Upon arrival, responding officers observed an unidentified adult male on the roadway with severe trauma to his head and body.

EMS also responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2019 Mercedes-Benz sedan and the bicyclist were both traveling east bound on Southern Boulevard in the right travel lane, approaching the Bronx River underpass. The bicyclist was ahead of the sedan. The Mercedes-Benz struck the rear tire of the bicyclist, punting bicyclist forward. During the course of the impact, the bicyclist struck his head on the windshield of the sedan. The operator of the Mercedes-Benz fled the location on foot after the collision.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following 27-year-old male individual was arrested and charged on Thursday, September 07, 2023, at approximately 1300 hours, within the confines of the 44th Precinct in the Bronx.

The investigation remains ongoing.
