NYCHA is home to 1 in 5 New Yorkers. Our residents are among the hardest-hit by CoViD-19. NYCHA must be fully funded, cleaned and fixed to keep them safe. Healthy homes are a top priority during a pandemic. Additionally, to support families who have lost income and are struggling financially, rents must be fully suspended and forgiven across NYCHA for the duration of this crisis.
We are calling on Congress to invest in public housing. It is time to cancel rent and fully fund, fix and clean NYCHA!
Conditions like no heat and hot water, widespread toxic mold, asbestos and lead have left our communities particularly vulnerable to this virus. Now our buildings are not being fully cleaned, turning a harmful situation into a deadly one. With our loved ones and neighbors in peril, we urge the federal government to correct past wrongs and re-invest in public housing.
Our families deserve better. We must take action now to minimize the impact of the deadly virus.
