The body of a 19-year-old college student from the Bronx has been recovered from an Adirondack lake where he worked as a cook at a resort.

Hamilton County Sheriff Karl Abrams says the body of Anthony Perez was found Tuesday in 39 feet of water off the shore of Camp-of-the-Woods, a Christian resort and conference center on Lake Pleasant, 65 miles northwest of Albany. Searchers had been looking for Perez since he slipped underwater while learning to swim Saturday.

Abrams says Perez had gone out in a kayak with a friend and got into the water wearing a life jacket that slipped off because it wasn’t fastened properly. Abrams called it a “tragic accident.”

Perez was a student at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. He lived in Watervliet.
