A 32-year-old Bronx man pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, a little more than a year after a woman he was with was caught transporting 645 illicit pills in a body cavity, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty II.
William Waters of Bronx, NY, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. He will be sentenced after the United States Probation Office completes an investigation report, according to Delehanty.
Waters and the woman he was with, Ebony Howard, 29, were stopped in Waterville in March 2013 after police received tips that the pair would be transporting drugs through town. The pills were found on Howard during a cavity search.
“Waters admitted that he obtained the tablets in New York City and gave them to Howard who was doing him a favor,” according to Delahanty. “Waters planned to distribute the drugs to Maine customers.”
Howard and Waters were indicted last summer on one count each of possession with intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing oxycodone and aiding and abetting the same.
The pills had an estimated street value of $20,000, according to a previously published report.
Howard faces the same penalties as Waters if convicted.
