Berkeley College held an Honors Scholars Graduate Reception to celebrate the achievements of students enrolled in the Honors Program at the Chart House in Weehawken, NJ, on August 3, 2018.

Earlier that day more than 50 Honors students presented their research projects based on the theme Unspoken Barriers in Social Justice. Awards presented at the Reception included recognition for student academic performance and community service, and alumni, faculty and support staff, for their accomplishments.

Amelia Chan of Bronx, NY, who is pursuing a BBA in Marketing Communications at Berkeley College, received the award for academic performance. Her research was titled “A Penny for Your Thoughts: Negative Self-Efficacy and Employer Gender Bias Can Impact a Woman’s Finances.”

“I chose this topic because I wanted to know what barriers I will be confronted with as I move forward in my life and in my career,” Ms. Chan said.

The Berkeley College Honors Program, which includes a rigorous academic component, also requires students to contribute hours toward community service.

Byron Hargrove, Ph.D., Director, Honors Program, Berkeley College, acknowledged the integrity and commitment of the students. “I am both proud and impressed by the work and integrity of these Honors students as they demonstrate their creativity and critical-thinking skills through their research and projects they presented today,” he said.
