On Thursday, March 05, 2020, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. hosted his annual Women’s History Month celebration at the Morris Yacht & Beach Club.
This year’s program celebrated the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment to the US Constitution which granted American women the right to vote.
The event was moderated by Spectrum NY1 anchor, Kristen Shaughnessy. The featured honorees were Executive Director of The Fresh Air Fund, Fatima Shama, The Lit. Bar founder, Noelle Santos and the President of Women of Woodlawn, Erin Lee.
“Women have been able to vote for a century now, but our society still has a long way to go to achieve true gender equality in many other ways, such as wage parity and other forms of discrimination,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. “We celebrated women from The Bronx and beyond at our annual Women’s History Month event because their stories will serve as an examples of courage and leadership to the next generation continuing the fight for their rights.”
