Conservative journalists James O’Keefe and Cam Higby have been charged with felonies for documenting a system that Minnesota Democrats insist is secure. During the August 11, 2026 primary, the two men entered multiple Minneapolis polling places wearing Islamic attire, with Higby covered in a burqa, and used hidden cameras to test the state’s vouching rules. They did not sign any oath. They did not cast any ballot. They simply asked questions and recorded the answers. For that, progressive Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty has charged both men with felony unlawful voting and identity theft, each carrying up to five years in prison.

The investigation was straightforward. Minnesota law allows one registered voter in a precinct to vouch for up to eight other people, enabling same-day registration without photo identification or standard proof of residency. O’Keefe and Higby entered polling places, provided the names of real registered voters, some of whom were reportedly deceased, and asked election workers whether identification was required and how the vouching process worked. Workers explained the rules. The journalists left….

At first, the only person Brian Kushner had the chance to pitch was the person at the front desk. He had walked into a JPMorgan Chase branch in SoHo without an appointment, not to open an account or apply for a job, but to explain a nonprofit run by Brooklyn teenagers. He had a proposal: bring practical lessons about money to children who were still young enough to be learning the basics of fractions and percentages.

The front-desk pitch led to a meeting with a branch manager. That meeting opened the door to another: a conversation with Asshur Cunningham, a JPMorgan Chase vice president and community manager. Each introduction took the idea a little further. But the real test came afterward, when a promising conversation had to become an actual program. Following planning, outreach and back-and-forth coordination, students served by Intellectual Gain gained opportunities to attend Chase-hosted Money Skills workshops.

The unexpected bank visit is only one piece of a larger story. Across Brooklyn, a group of high school students has been recruiting volunteer tutors, working with families, scheduling virtual lessons, and bringing financial education to students in grades four through eight. Their organization, Intellectual Gain, Inc., is a registered New York 501(c)(3) nonprofit built around an uncomplicated idea: useful educational help should not depend on whether a family can pay for it.

A Nonprofit With Homework Of Its Own

Intellectual Gain began in 2025 as a project shared by five Brooklyn teenagers who saw how easily the cost of private tutoring could put individualized help out of reach. Plenty of students need another explanation of a math concept or a patient reader to work through an assignment. Not every family can…

Drill music is loud, dark, unapologetic, and enormously influential. For millions of young listeners, it is more than another style of hip-hop. Drill can be entertainment, storytelling, identity, and, in some communities, a musical account of what young people see happening outside their doors. The concern begins when stories about shootings, gangs, enemies, and retaliation become intertwined with popularity, social media attention, and success.

According to Pitchfork, drill emerged from Chicago in the early 2010s, with teenage rapper Chief Keef becoming one of the movement’s defining figures. His 2012 song “I Don’t Like” helped propel drill into mainstream hip-hop while he was still a teenager. The genre became known for menacing production, hard drums, and lyrics that frequently addressed violence and gang-dominated street life.

Drill did not remain in Chicago. It traveled. According to PBS, YouTube played an important role in helping Chicago artists reach audiences outside their neighborhoods, allowing young rappers to distribute music depicting gang life and problems affecting their communities. The sound eventually developed major scenes in places including London and New York, where Brooklyn drill became an important part of the city’s modern hip-hop identity.

The impact on young people, however, is more complicated than simply declaring drill music dangerous. According to research published in Urban Education, drill can function as a form of expression for Black youth. Researchers Kelly R. Allen, Ian Levy, and Edmund Adjapong found that drill could provide opportunities for communalism, emotional expression, and self-empowerment….
