In recent weeks, Republican Presidential Candidate and former President Donald J. Trump has been in New York City facing a criminal trial. This time, which should be used for campaigning and fundraising, is being diverted to his defense efforts. However, as with all things involving Trump, a significant media presence and a dedicated fan base have amplified his public appeal.
Following his court appearances, Trump has frequently held press conferences to comment on his case. Despite the trial judge fining him for these remarks, Trump has seized the opportunity to engage with New Yorkers. Last month, he visited a local bodega in Harlem, where the reactions were largely positive.
The Bronx County Conservative Party is particularly enthusiastic about the possibility of Trump visiting the Bronx. They recall his campaign visit in 2016 with the Bronx Republican Party and are eager to see a repeat. Over the past year, the Bronx County Conservative Party has worked diligently to draw attention to Trump’s campaign.
The Bronx County Conservative Party was among the first to publicly endorse Trump’s candidacy. They have published multiple articles in support of him, issued an open invitation for his visit, and even formed a committee dedicated to bringing Trump to the Bronx. This committee will have their next meeting on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in the Crotona Park East area of the Bronx. One committee member mentioned that the goal is to be prepared for Trump’s visit and to work towards collecting voter registration cards. Those who participate might have a better chance of meeting Trump than those waiting in the crowd.
Patrick McManus, Chairman of the Bronx County Conservative Party, stated, “We are working hard to bring attention to Trump’s campaign for the Bronx to be his next visit. There is a lot of buzz and many meetings to make it happen. I truly believe that it will happen sooner than many think. As a party, we are already preparing for a visit. Once the word is out, we will definitely make the public aware and want the masses to join us in supporting Trump as our next President.”
Dion Powell, the Conservative District Leader for the 78th Assembly District, has been helping to rally Bronx members in favor of Trump. He has been helping to invite the community to attend an event titled “Black Patriots for Trump Rally” on May 18, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bill Rainey Park in the Bronx. Guest speakers include Ashaki Nichols, Founder of Redemption Party; Derrick Gibson, former New York State Governor Candidate; Sammy Ravelo, Community Advocate; Arthur Roldan from the Staten Island County Committee; Reverend Ruben Diaz, Sr., and others.
The Bronx Republican Party, who would be the primary organizers for such a visit, would likely be the first to confirm a visit. Bronx Republican Party Chairman Mike Rendino was contacted for comments but did not provide feedback before this publication.
