Council Member Oliver Koppell is happy to announce that the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) has completed the installation of the stainless steel handrail at the Kappock Street Underpass.

Koppell had repeatedly requested that DDC expedite the installation of the safety rail and remove the unsightly protective orange netting that had obstructed pedestrian traffic and had become a  blight on the community. In April, the DDC communicated to Koppell that the handrail would be fully installed by the end of May.

“Although community residents have been frustrated by the delay in the completion of the project, I am pleased that DDC was able to stick to its recent timetable and that we now have a completed, attractive and  permanent installation,” Koppell said.
