New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has agreed to a multi year extension according to reports from ESPN.

When the Jets were eliminated from playoff contention because of the loss to Carolina and the Ravens win, it was clear to most people that he would not return as head coach.  However, after week 17, Woody Johnson told the players and the reporters that they would retain Rex after this season. Even though Woody said that his mind was made up before the final two games, Rex must have extended Woody’s decision after the 20-7 win against Miami.

Days later after Idzik and Ryan’s final press conference of the year, sources have said that Rex will not get a contract extension and would have to improve in the 2014-2015 season in order to get an extension.

Rex’s current record as head coach is 42-38 in the regular season and 4-2 in the postseason.

Ryan is currently on his remaining one year deal but will stay in New York for a few more years.
