Democrat Marjorie Velázquez has won the General Election to represent District 13 in the City Council. She issued the following statement.
“This win is a tremendous honor, and I am so thrilled to serve the Bronx in the City Council. I was born and raised in this borough, and have dedicated my life to working to empower our community. From serving on Community Board 10 to organizing mutual aid efforts during the pandemic, I have seen the compassion and dedication of our neighbors firsthand, and I am
excited to work together to deliver for our working families.
“There are so many people I want to thank — my husband, Jeff, and our family; our awesome campaign team and volunteers; the progressive organizations, labor unions, and leaders who endorsed us; and the voters who made their voices heard in the Primary and General Elections. This victory would not have been possible without your support, encouragement, and time, and I can’t thank you enough.
“Now, it is time to get to work. To ensure that all New Yorkers are included in our recovery, to demand protections and resources for our most vulnerable – our seniors and children, to fight for a fair and just criminal justice system that keeps everyone safe, and bring our economy back for our small businesses and ensure our workers have the training and support they need. Together, I know we can succeed.”
